Zero, and even the final Sigma fight itself. From the cyberspace aesthetic, the throwback bosses, the music (Cyber Maze Core, anyone?), X vs. On the flipside, I think X5 might have the strongest endgame of all of them. I need not explain, but the fact that you can get the bad ending despite doing everything the game tells you to do is not cool. The RNG, and to a lesser extent the parts system, are the most glaring flaws in this game. I've gotten ob-fucking-bliterated so many times in Burn Dinorex's stage because she interrupts me while I'm running for shelter from the impending lava storm.įinally, the RNG. Then we have Alia, who doesn't ever shut up. And between you and me, the Gaea Armor is way more fun and adds an interesting restriction on gameplay than the Falcon Armor. Plus, you have to get all the Falcon Armor pieces before you can get all the Gaea Armor pieces, making any hint of a customizable route essentially impossible unless you want to just ditch the armors entirely.
Hell, to get a piece of the Falcon Armor AND Heart Tank, you have to revisit Tidal Whale's stage TWICE! The slowest, most monotonous stage in X history! Primarily, the collectible backtracking that is even more obnoxious in this game than any other previously. The problem with this game becomes apparent after repeat playthroughs. The music is top-notch as always although it doesn't beat out X4 to me. It's also great that we were introduced to a bunch of characters that would come to stick around for later games. See, it's great that for the first time we can pick X and his various armors or Zero on a stage-to-stage basis. Most of the hate towards the series is directed at 6 and 7, and I never really see anyone talk about this game. Idk, I just really have been disliking the game. I’ve played mostly as Zero, and some of the bosses just feel like they weren’t designed to use him at all (specifically Yellow Devil and the re used boss from X1.) the final sigma stages are also the most horribly designed levels I’ve seen in the series so far (forced to use one specific ability, and insta death if you don’t know the layout of the stage perfectly). It’s like they decided to just incorporate a bunch of random RPG elements for no reason, when none of the previous games had it. There’s multiple armors for X, different ways to develop parts by beating the bosses at certain times, still able to play as Zero, hidden items that require insanely specific armors etc. I also dislike how the game added so many variables and shit to the gameplay.
With this shit though, I pretty much have to just speed through every level and give up on whatever I missed. It felt super rewarding discovering new hidden things I overlooked initially. I loved taking my time re visiting every stage and exploring. The time limit mechanic is insanely annoying, since it goes against the core gameplay of every single X game before it. The quality for me remained pretty much the same through the first 4 games (with a slight quality dip in 3), but so far, X5 has felt like a massive step down, and the game just isn’t enjoyable at all (im up to sigma btw).
