It is a shame because a lot of effort has clearly gone into the game, including a full suite of perks and weapons that allow you to create custom loadouts just like the console games.

But as it is it just ends up adding to the game’s list of problems. However, It’s generic rather than outright bad and probably would’ve been quickly forgiven if not for the other faults. The simplistic combat only further highlights the fact that the campaign itself is very much Call Of Duty-by-numbers, with nothing like the showmanship and unpredictability of the real games. The reason for this is not just the layout of the maps but the very fact that you can switch to a first person view whenever you want – because this in turn necessities that enemies stand around waiting to be killed as you fumble with the unwieldy controls. It may be very easy to set up clever decoys and flanking maneuverers but it’s rarely necessary. There’s probably more strategic thinking here than ever happens in a real game of Call Of Duty, but the level design is never able to realise the full potential of the game.

Strike Team works on a smaller scale than Black Ops II, with just a regular duo of soldiers under your control, but the basics are very similar: you can switch between first person and top-down viewpoints at almost any time (the in-game conceit being that you’re using a drone’s-eye view).įirst person shooters might not work very well on a tablet but real-time strategy games certainly do, and so directing your two-man team around the battlefield, trying to flank enemies or use stealth tactics works extremely well.
